GUAVA(PSIDIUM GUAJAVA)

Commonly known as Guava, distributed in India, Brazil, Southeast Asia and certain parts of Africa. Shrub or small tree, to 30 feet, bark scaly, greenish-brown, branchlets 4-angled; leaves ovate to oblong-elliptic, to 6 inches long, pubescent beneath, veins prominent; flowers white, solitary or few together on slender peduncles; fruit ovoid to pear-shaped, 1-4 inches long, with yellow or dark pink flesh.

Active Principle

The main active principle is Guaijavarin, a Quercetin glycoside that stops diarrhea and dysentery. The whole leaf extract contains an anti-diabetic agent, anti-oxidant Strictinin, Tannins and Saponins.

Advantages

High content of tannins and saponins in the whole leaf extract of Psidium makes it an ideal nutraceutical for Blood Glucose control and a general tonic. It is recommended to take 250 mg Psidium extract twice daily.
