MULBERRY LEAF EXTRACT ( MORUS ALBA )

Morus alba is a small to medium-sized monoecious or dioecious shrub or tree, up to 15 m tall and wide-spreading. Leaves are light green, alternate, stipulate, variable in shape, lobed or unlobed usually smooth above, glabrous or pubescent along veins. Flowers are small greenish-yellow to whitish.
Active Principle

Mulberry leaf extract contains 1-deoxynojirimycin, isoquercitrin and astragalin. It also contains flavanoids, proteins, sugars, polyphenols, steroids, triterpenes, vitamins, and minerals.

Clinical Uses
  • Control blood sugar level
  • Reduces LDL and increases HDL
  • Antioxidant
  • Weight loss agent
  • Skin whitener
Advantages

Mulberry leaf extract is a potent supplement for the control and balance of blood sugar levels and cholesterol. 1-Deoxynojirimycin, active ingredient in the extract, strongly inhibits the intestinal metabolism of disaccharides (especially sucrose), thereby restricting almost upto 50 % of the amount of sugar entering the circulation. It is also observed that mulberry leaf extract taken before carbohydrate rich meals significantly suppresses the normal postprandial (after-meal) rise in blood sugar level.
Morus alba leaf extract is effective in suppressing arteriosclerosis, the buildup of cholesterol rich plaques in the arteries. It does this by inhibiting the oxidation of LDL-cholesterol (low-density lipoprotein, the harmful cholesterol). The extract also contains Isoquercitin, which when ingested is largely metabolized to quercetin, a potent antioxident.
