Clinical Uses
  • Type I and Type II Diabetes mellitus
Advantages

The Japanese scientists have isolated a potent alpha – glucoside inhibitor Salicinol and its stereo structure was determined on the basis of chemical and physiochemical evidences. Salicinol was found to be a competitive inhibitor and exhibited very potent inhibitory activities against the intestinal alpha-glucosidase. The inhibitory activities against sucrase and  isomaltase were much more potent than Acarbose, the commercial alpha-glucosidase drug. Hence it is indicated for border line diabetes, Type I and Type II Diabetes mellitus.
